Back to Squash

Great news!

Last night, England Squash announced that, from 1 September, squash clubs and venues in England can allow players who form ‘Squash Bubbles’ to play FULL-COURT SQUASH!

As you may know, our club has been pressing hard for England Squash to adopt the concept as a vital stepping-stone towards returning to full competitive squash; so we are delighted that it will now form part of the following staged comeback strategy:

Players within a bubble can play full-court matches, but with the following modifications and hygiene measures;

1) Only two players on court at one time.
2) Play best of three games.
3) Play first to 11 points, sudden-death at 10-all.
4) Use ‘Sides’ as a way to maintain social distancing throughout the warm-up.
5) During each game, when the first player reaches five points, both players should wipe away excessive sweat, sanitise their hands and the ball. Repeat between games.
6) The same player to serve / touch the ball during each half of a game, and at the halfway point, switch servers.
7) Players must wear protective eyewear or visor.
8) Players must not touch the court walls.
9) Players are not allowed to shout or raise their voice.

If a player wishes to switch bubbles, they must inform Nigel Stilgoe and then take a 7-day break from playing the full version of the game before joining a different bubble. ‘Sides’ or socially distanced practices can be played during this 7-day break.
If a player develops Covid-19 symptoms, players from a bubble that have been in contact with the symptomatic player within the seven days prior must self-isolate and undertake tests as per Government guidelines, even if they exhibit no symptoms themselves, until it has been determined whether or not the symptomatic player has tested positive or negative.
Players within the bubble can resume play if the COVID-19 test proves negative.

Courts have already started filling up since we announced the club’s re-opening from this Sunday, so do go to the MYCOURTS system to book your games for the next couple of weeks.

Finally, our guidance for playing Covid-secure squash at the club is attached to this email. Please read it carefully so that you a fully-prepared when visiting the club to play.

Thank you and many regards,

Shaun Baxter (BTSC Chairman)
