Re-opening Burton Tennis and Squash Club

Dear Members,

We hope that you are keeping well.

It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce the gradual but steady return to normal play at Burton Tennis and Squash Club.

STEP 1 (BACK TO TENNIS)
March 29th marks the return to tennis. The clubhouse will not be opened at this stage, but a Portaloo will still be available.
Coaching can occur for large groups (15 juniors and 12 adults) and there will be sanitising stations available on court.
Please book courts using the MYCOURTS booking system. Apart from ensuring no clashes, it will also our Head Coach Alison Smith to monitor the bookings so that she can programme the floodlights remotely when relevant.
Members are reminded not come to the club if they have any symptoms or have been in contact with anyone else who does.

STEP 2 (BAR TO OPEN FOUR DAYS PER WEEK)
We plan to open the bar on Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sunday each week between the hours of 5:30pmand 9pm from Thursday 15th April.
Members will be able to drink outside on the decking and, in the interest of safety, the bar will be cashless (cards only – even with small items like sweets) and no cash or ‘i.o.u.’s will be accepted.
The toilets within the clubhouse will be in use from the 15th.

STEP 3 (BACK TO INDOOR SPORT)
Unless we hear otherwise from England Squash (who, predictably, have not provided any information or guidance so far), it is relatively safe to assume that squash can resume on the 17th of May.
Courts will remain in 50-minute slots, whereby the lights only work for 40 minutes to allow 10 minutes for post-match court aeration.
As was the case pre-lockdown, court and lighting fees will now be rolled into one and payable in advance using the MYCOURTS booking system.

IMPROVEMENTS
Although it has been frustrating not to open the club during the Covid restriction, the committee has remained committed to improving the club. Apart from new automated lighting systems for both tennis and squash the following improvements have also been made:

1) The decking outside the bar area has been repaired and more furniture purchased

2) There have also been repairs to the squash courts

3) The tennis net posts have been replaced

4) The heating system has been serviced

5) The water tank has been replaced

Critically, we have SURVIVED! And much of that has been due to your continued support which is much appreciated.

MEMBERSHIP
As you know, ours is a members-run and members-owned club and, although certain Covid grants have helped significantly, the club now needs membership payments urgently to protect its future.

Membership fees are normally due on the 1st of April; however, we would like to trigger payments from the start of May on a pro rata basis (charging 11 months instead of 12), which we feel is a good compromise because, although squash cannot start until the 17th of May, all members can play tennis from the start of April.

We will be issuing revised membership tariffs very soon with instructions on how to pay.

In the meantime, stay well and we look forward to seeing you all again very soon.

Many regards,

Shaun Baxter (BTSC Chairman)
