BTSC Update 27-06-20

Hi Everyone,

I hope that you are enjoying the good weather and keeping safe.

Just to let you know that we have decided not to open the clubhouse until it is safe to play squash and racketball.

Firstly, it does not make any sense to open the bar until the squash courts are open as bar stock (e.g., cask ales, which have a very short shelf-life once opened) will be wasted with so few using the bar; also, it would be unreasonable to expect bar staff to offer their services at a time when they would spend most (if not all) of their shift standing around with nothing to do.

Secondly, we would have to pay to have the club cleaned (especially important during this current pandemic) on a daily basis at a time when we have no income.

Thirdly, the club needs to save as much money as it can while not able to generate any revenue during the lockdown period; consequently, we will only renew our insurance when the club can open fully and is in a position to request membership fee payments; consequently, members would not be covered presently if they entered the club (accidents etc); so, we have now provided a Portaloo for those of you who are continuing to play tennis during the lockdown.

In the meantime, please accept that using the tennis courts is at your own risk, as the club cannot take any responsibility for your safety while it is officially closed.

Finally, if you do use the courts, please continue to adhere to current socially distancing rules and do not visit the club if you are showing any cold- or flu-like symptoms.

Thank you and many regards,

Shaun Baxter
(BTSC Chairman)
