November Suggestions

November Suggestions
Dear Members

Firstly, thank you to all those who have made suggestions into the suggestion box situated in the bar area of the clubhouse.

The list is as below and was discussed at the last committee meeting on Monday 5th December:

1) Padel Courts at BTSC - 2 anonymous members
2) Club clothing for purchase - named
3) Neighbours trees - need to be pollarded -anon
4) Netting at back of tennis courts heightening - anon
5) Children's play area facility - named
6) Rebound padding on tennis courts - anon
7) PAR scoring (squash) in place in team matches - anon
8) Heating on squash courts concerns re energy bill - anon
9) Extension of internal squash leagues request to lengthen timeframe - anon

Committee responses:-
1) Padel Tennis - The local area is becoming saturated with such facilities but many of these are business owned and have the funding to support, we are a club of volunteers and members. Padel courts as explained last month has been explored by the committee previously and has included a visit to a neighbouring club - experts were contacted and quote received estimated for one Padel court exceeds £30k, also it is a costly game to play. Unfortunately, this is not financially viable and within range of our budget currently. If those members who have suggested the Padel courts over the last 2 months would identify themselves to the committee, then with further discussions on how to fund this sporting project and with them as individuals actively becoming involved it would be helpful.

2) Club clothing - opportunity to purchase - the committee are exploring this option/suggestion with the company who currently provide the team shirts.

3) Neighbours trees - a committee member is exploring this and a satellite survey is required to confirm the ownership of the trees initially. However not a financial priority at the moment.

4) Netting at back of tennis courts - there will be work on the back wall in the forthcoming Spring following a structural survey - consideration will be taken into account regarding the height of the netting. Control and safety of the ball in play may also help.

5) Children's play area bank area - great idea, however following discussion around risk near to the car park, steepness of the bank and parental supervision, the committee may consider other options in the near future. The area would be required to meet H&S standards.

6) Rebound padding against the back wall of the courts - option not viable currently financially -it is the players responsibility to create safe play.

7) PAR scoring - explained and advocated by our Squash Captain at the meeting for non squash players - agreed next season PAR would be in place in internal leagues.

8) Heating on squash courts - following discussion it was agreed a better game is achieved on a warm court so no change going forward. Thank you for your concern.

9) Extension of internal squash leagues - agreed it is incumbent on players to manage their games and encourage play, the feeling is that the time frame is sufficient and the club needs to see activity on court.

Once again thank you for the above please continue to make suggestions so we can table for discussion at the meetings. As you will be aware a few of the above are related to finance so if any of you could assist the committee to explore any funding applications please come forward.

Kind regards
The Committee
