Back to Squash: First Steps

Dear Member,

We are pleased to announce that our squash courts will be available from Thursday April the 15th for the following:

1) Solo practice
2) Normal squash between people from the same household and/or support bubble
3) 1-2-1 coaching

Courts will be open Thursday/Friday/Saturday and Sunday of each week ONLY, in order to correspond to days on which the bar is open. This will ensure that there is a member of staff available to close the club on each of those nights.

Courts should be booked as usual using the MYCOURTS booking system which is currently set to intervals of 50 minutes (40 minutes of play and 10 minutes left for aeration before the following session).

To help to get players to blow the cobwebs off, two of our members Jeff Davenport and James Wright have kindly offered to make themselves available for coaching each Saturday afternoon from April the 17th and details of these sessions will follow shortly.

Regarding the bar:

a) Showers will be available, so that members can then use the bar after they have played. Showering should be kept short and only shared with your playing partner.

b) Drinks can only be consumed outside (on the decking) and financial transactions must be contactless (no cash or IOUs given), even for small items such as sweets.

c) Members are expected to continue to observe social distancing measures when using the bar and, as usual, please do not visit the club if you have any Covid symptoms or have come into contact within anyone else who has.

Eventually, the plan is to open the squash courts seven days per week returning to ‘normal’ squash for all members from the 17th of May to correspond to the government’s ruling that all indoor adult sports can resume from that date. At that point, we also hope to have Club Captain Doug Whitfield resuming his services as one of our resident squash coaches.

Finally, as explained in the previous email, we will also be sending out details soon on how to pay your membership from the start of May (this will be pro rata: 11 months instead of 12, which will take us up to next April).

Many regards,

Shaun Baxter (BTSC Chairman)
