Committee Update

Dear Members

The committee wish to inform you that due to personal circumstances Liesl Blagden has stepped down as Bar Secretary. The committee themselves and on behalf of all the members wish to thank her for her services to the bar in this role.

Following an emergency committee meeting this evening, going forward, Steve Green (Club President and previous licence holder) will return in the interim to uphold this position.

As you are aware in September each year we hold our AGM which invites members to step forward into all official officer positions on the committee, following due process in the Club Rules through a democratic nomination process, so to encourage consideration by members to take on the role and gain free membership, we felt it appropriate for you to be aware of its commitment.

The Bar Secretary MUST:-

Attain a personal named bar license and adhere to current legislation (Licencing Act 2003) as required by appropriate authorities (East Staffordshire Borough Council – Club Premises Certificate - and Law Agencies).

Undertake Cellar Management (covering Hygiene training) and Personal Licence training and pass the examinations required.

Attain a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service Certificate) from appropriate authorities as required.

N.B. The above is essential before commencing in the role

The role is identified as a single person role only.

The Bar Secretary must also:-

Commit to weekly maintenance and management of the cellar (daily if required)

Commit to ensuring bar rotas are managed efficiently and effectively over a seven day period working in lines with Club Rules and current licencing laws.

Be willing to be approached in decision making processes when social events are requested and oversee the organisation of staff on the voluntary bar.

Commit to training and induction of new bar staff in line with Club Rules.

Through existing processes liase with the brewery, order and manage cellar stock, maintain a ‘healthy cellar’.

Ensure all correspondence is shared with the financial representatives at BTSC and periodic meetings with the Club Accountant.

Attend monthly committee meetings and support in the general running of the club.

Liase and discuss with the general committee any problems that arise.

Practice in the existing framework of all BTSC Club Policies and Procedures.

Should no suitable person who meets all of the requirements above come forward, BTSC will have no Licensee and therefore may have to review the viability of the bar facility due to breaking the Law.

If you feel you can offer your time and appropriate skills to perform as above please contact myself on 0785 103 4666 or email stevegreen8@sky.com.

Members please also note that the current arrangements for no bar service on Friday evenings remains, this was unanimously agreed as a committee action until CCTV is fully installed behind the bar, we are pleased to report that the progress of this is imminent, and we will update you accordingly. Existing CCTV will remain in situ in the clubhouse where it is currently positioned.

However the committee have agreed a bar restructure for Friday evenings as proposed for the forthcoming future, which will be that the bar is open from 5.30pm until 9.30pm, then locked and secured, to accommodate the members who wish to attend, have played sport and any team matches for refreshments. As we no longer have committed bar staff on Friday evenings due to individuals stepping down, the bar will remain closed every Friday with no exception, until all 3 slots are filled, we will keep you updated on this.

Any member who wishes to volunteer for one of the above Friday slots, which is one week out of three, please also make yourself known on the contact details above as soon as possible.

Hopefully we can resolve this issue for members and the good of the club with your support.

Kind regards

Heather Green

(Acting Chair)
