The Nexts Steps for Burton Tennis & Squash Club

Dear Members,

In my last email, I promised to keep you informed of any developments regarding opening the club.

As you know, during the lockdown, we have allowed tennis to be played at your own risk and free of charge; however, in the long-term interest of the club, it’s now time for us all to take some steps that will help to secure its future:

1) Membership payments
2) Limited bar opening
3) Members’ support

STEP 1: MEMBERSHIP PAYMENTS
All members who wish to continue to play tennis must now kindly pay their membership with immediate effect.

This need only be a pro rata payment for the remaining 8 months of the current membership cycle:

Country - £100
Country half price [U25 or bar staff] - £50
Full - £132
Half-price [U25 or bar staff] - £66
Junior 0-10 - £36
Junior 0-10 w/parent member - £28
Junior 11-17 - £44
Junior 11-17 w/parent member - £34
Partner/spouse - £88
Partner/spouse half price [U25 or bar staff] - £44
Senior - £88
Senior half price [bar staff] - £44
Social - £17
Squash team only - £17
Student - £42
Student (Summer only) - £14

There are three possible forms of payment:

1) The preferred method of payment is via the MYCOURTS booking system. Simply log-in, click on ‘Membership Subscription’ in the left-hand column and follow the instructions

2) Alternatively, you can make a payment directly into the club’s bank account:

Acc: 30231363
Sort: 20 15 96

IF USING THIS METHOD, PLEASE REMEMBER TO MARK YOUR NAME CLEARLY, SO THAT WE CAN SEE THAT YOU HAVE PAID.

3) The least preferred method is via direct debit; however, if you would still like to use this method, you must contact the membership secretary Dick Lathbury to request that he reactivate your direct debit which, currently, has been put on hold for the next 12 months.

Unfortunately, as stated in the previous email, the squash courts will remain closed for squash and racketball.
Although current government directives now allow solo practice and for people from the same household to share a court, we believe that the numbers would be too small for us to justify the extra costs at this point (the staffing costs for the required deep-cleaning regime, insurance cover, etc).
I will inform you as soon as we are prepared to open the squash courts as lock-down measures are further relaxed.

STEP 2: OPENING THE BAR
As well as being the pivotal social hub, the bar provides the most vital income stream for the club; consequently, we have decided to start opening the bar between the hours of 5pm-9pm on Friday and Saturday each week starting from Saturday 31st July.
Steve Green will do his best to stock the bar with products that have a sufficiently long shelf-life (draught Stella, Guinness, Carling and cider). At this point, there will be no draught ales, although we will look into the possibilities of providing bottled ales in the meantime.
Please note that the bar will accept CARD PAYMENTS ONLY, and no credit given.

STEP 3: YOUR SUPPORT
During the current lockdown, it has been incredibly gratifying to be told by so many members that they are willing to pay the full membership in order to support the club – whether they are able to play or not - and that sentiment is much appreciated.
This club belongs to all of us, and I know that there are many of you who will do their utmost to protect it; consequently, although you are only expected to pay a pro rata payment (for the remaining 8 months of the year), we also appeal to you to elect to pay the full annual membership fee: it will be very gratefully received and make a huge difference to the club.
The full membership fees in each category are as follows:

Country - £150
Country half price [U25 or bar staff] - £75
Full - £198
Half-price [U25 or bar staff] - £99
Junior 0-10 - £54
Junior 0-10 w/parent member - £42
Junior 11-17 - £66
Junior 11-17 w/parent member - £51
Partner/spouse - £132
Partner/spouse half price [U25 or bar staff] - £66
Senior - £132
Senior half price [bar staff] - £66
Social - £25
Squash team only - £25
Student - £63
Student (Summer only) - £21

Please do your best to ensure that, in the future, you do not regret missing the opportunity to secure the survival of the club through this difficult time.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
The health and wellbeing of our members is paramount, and the club will do its best to make sure that everyone who visits it is as safe as possible.
Until the squash courts are re-opened, the clubhouse will remain closed each week until the hours of 5pm-9pm on Friday and Saturday when the bar will be open.
When using the bar, please enter the clubhouse through the top door (from the car park) and exit through the bottom door (leading to the decking) in order to create a one-way system whereby members will not need to pass on the stairs. You will also be required to leave you details on a Track and Trace form at the door, so that you can be called if, subsequently, it is suspected that someone visiting the club has been affected by the coronavirus on the day of your visit.
Even though all reasonable steps will be taken by the club (e.g., hand sanitiser on the bar etc) you must also take responsibility for your own safety when visiting the club to play or drink at the bar. And, by paying your membership, it will be understood that you will be entering the club at your own risk and agreeing to indemnify it against any claims for injury or illness incurred on the premises.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Many thanks to the various committee members who have performed vital routine maintenance at the club throughout the lockdown and continued to meet on a regular basis (mainly via Zoom) to manage the club’s affairs at a very challenging time, and also to the bar staff who have volunteered to service the bar once it is open.

Finally, thank you to you all for your patience as I know that you are all itching to get back on court and to enjoy the ‘old normality’ of a week that features a healthy dose of racket sports and socialising.
Please show your support for the club by paying your membership as soon as you can and by using the bar on Fridays and Saturdays. We look forward to seeing you.

Many regards,

Shaun Baxter (BTSC, Chairman)
